The Convenience of Doggie Doors
There are several advantages that you can get from dog doors. Today, more and more dog owners and lovers are starting to see the benefits that doggie doors have for them and their dogs. For one thing it allows your dog to feel more independent. Your dog will see that they do not have to rely on you every time they want to go outside. Whether they are going out to go to the bathroom or just want to get a bit of fresh air, it allows them to have a more enjoyable life.
There are benefits for you too, for example, your dog won’t damage your door anymore when it scratches it to indicate that it wants to go out. If your dog has to go to the bathroom and especially if you are in bed or otherwise cannot hear your dog whining to go out they will probably try jumping up on the door and could cause scratching as a result.
And of course, if you have a doggie door installed, you won’t have to worry about having to clean up after your dog because you weren’t at home when the dog had the urgency to relieve itself.
A Do It Yourself Project
If you like the idea of having a doggie door installed, there’s a way you can make it affordable. Instead of paying a repairman or a company to come to your house and install it, you can make a do it yourself project out of it and save you some dollars. Doggie doors are really easy to install and you only need a few simple supplies. You have to have a saw, a ruler, a pencil or someting to mark a guiding line, and the doggie door fixings. This should be a package that comes with not only the actual dog flap but also screws to attach it to the door and in most cases a template as well that you can use to draw onto the door.
Building experts and carpenters usually recommend that doors should be unhinged before dog doors are installed on them to make the process easier. This way you can lay the door flat down and saw easily through the door after you have drawn the template on. Remember to measure two times, but cut only once. Make sure the doggie door is not only situated high enough up on the door to make it convenient for the dog to walk through the door but also the width must be large enough.
You do not want your dog to end up getting stuck while going through the door so it is always important to leave a bit of extra room for the safety and comfort of the dog
