The Facts About The Electric Dog Training Collar

Published by Puppy Care Blogger under 14

Dogs need to be trained. Any person who goes ahead and buys a dog as a pet, needs to know that it is their responsibility to provide this training. It does not have to take a lot to train a dog and some dogs are just well behaved to begin with. Whether you want to train your pet to sit, behave when visits arrive, or hunt, there are products in the market that can help you.

If you get one of these, for example, an electronic dog training collar, you’ll see better results in a shorter amount of time. This collar was surrounded by controversy from the moment it was made available to the public. On one hand, people have found it extremely effective and even enjoyable to use when training their dogs. On the other hand, some people think it’s a cruel form to punish dogs for following their natural instincts.

From a simple look, one wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the electric dog training collar, and a normal dog collar; the only way to see the difference is to see up close the two steel prongs that the electric collar has. These prongs have to be in contact with the neck of the dog for the collar to work properly. And just like a regular collar, the electric dog training collar comes in different sizes and colors, so you can choose one that looks nice for your dog.

Will It Hurt My Dog?

The controversy of the electronic dog training collar comes when dog owners worry that this collar is going to hurt their beloved dog. The simple answer is no, it is not going to hurt your dog. It does use an electrical shock to scare them but the jolt is not enough to actually cause any damage. It basically comes down to whether you feel comfortable with making your dog wear this collar. There are other types of collar that you can get that don’t use an electric shock, if the idea of a shock is too unpleasant for you.

For instance there is the citronella dog training collar which is similar to the electric dog training collar only it uses a simple spray of citronella to stop the dog from barking, rather than an electrical shock

As with everything, every person will have his or her own different point of view on what is acceptable and what isn’t when it comes to dog training. There are lots of great options out there and regardless of whether you opt for the electric dog training collar or not, the most important thing is that you are taking the time to properly train your dog and have them be well-behaved.
