In addition to giving your dog more freedom, you won’t have to interrupt whatever you are doing to get up and open the door so that it can go out every single time.
For example, some dogs will need to go out to relieve themselves late at night beacause they are sick or they ate something they shouldn’t have, and if you have a doggie door, this will not happen to you. Then, it’s a matter of deciding how to get the doggie door installed. You can call a professional to come and do the work for you but why would you when it is easy enough to do on your own?.
The Process
If you want to take on the challenge of installing a pet door in your home for your furry friend, there are just a few easy steps you will need to follow. The first thing to do is establish where the doggie door is going to be placed, that is, on what door it will be and how big it will be. The height of your dog is what will be most determining here.
You want the door to be located in the best spot to make it easy and convenient for your dog to make it through. Bigger dogs might require you to adjust the height of the doggie door, and remember that your dog may still grow, depending on its age. The reason why the size of the doggie door is so important is to that your dog doesn’t have any chance of getting stuck or hurting itself when it uses the doggie door.
Remove the door from its hinges to make it easier to work on, and then you want to use a ruler and pencil to draw out the outline of the pet door. A hardware store will sell you complete kits of dog door that will have all the materials you need, including plans, a set of instructions, the doggie door itself, fixtures, hinges, screws, bolts, etc.
To install the pet door you just cut through the template you have drawn, attach the dog flap and then you can put the door back up on its hinges and you are finished
